PassportLayout.online is a free web tool that creates print-ready passport photo layouts directly in your browser. No registration, no uploads, no cost. Your photos are processed entirely on your device using the HTML5 Canvas API — nothing is ever sent to a server.
Why We Built This
Getting passport photos should be simple. Yet most people either pay a premium at a photo shop for what amounts to a basic crop-and-print job, or they wrestle with image editors trying to get the dimensions right. Many online tools claim to be free but watermark the output or require you to upload your photo to their servers — a privacy concern when the image is literally your face.
We built PassportLayout.online to solve this in the most straightforward way possible: a single-purpose tool that does one thing well, runs entirely in your browser, and costs nothing.
How It Works
The tool guides you through four steps:
- Upload — Select a photo from your device. It loads directly into the browser's memory and is never transmitted anywhere.
- Adjust — Position three guide lines on your photo: red for the top of your head, blue for the bottom of your chin, and green for the vertical centre of your face. The tool uses these to calculate a crop where your face fills exactly 75% of the frame height — the proportion specified by international biometric passport photo standards (ICAO Doc 9303).
- Options — Choose your passport photo size (35×45mm, 2×2", and more), your paper size (A4, Letter, 4×6", etc.), orientation, and how many copies you need. The tool calculates the optimal grid layout automatically.
- Print — Generate the final layout at 300 DPI and either print directly from your browser or download it as a PNG file.

Technology
PassportLayout.online is a single-file HTML application — no frameworks, no build step, no server-side processing. The entire tool is delivered as one HTML file containing all CSS and JavaScript. This keeps things fast, simple, and auditable: you can view the complete source code in your browser's developer tools at any time.
Privacy
Privacy isn't a feature we bolted on — it's the foundation of how the tool works. Because all processing uses the browser's Canvas API, your photos physically cannot leave your device. There's no upload button, no API endpoint, no cloud storage. Read our full privacy policy for details.
How we verify requirements
Every country guide on this site is written against the official publication of the passport-issuing authority for that country — not against other websites, forums, or photo-booth marketing pages. For the United States that means the U.S. Department of State; for the United Kingdom, GOV.UK and HM Passport Office; for Canada, IRCC; for Australia, the Australian Passport Office; for Japan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA); for the UAE, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP); for Brazil, the Polícia Federal and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE); for China, the National Immigration Administration (NIA) and the CVASC visa application centres; and for India, Passport Seva. Each page lists its sources so you can check them yourself.
We also cross-check every specification against ICAO Doc 9303, the international biometric standard from which all national passport photo requirements derive. Dimensions, head-height ratios, and background rules that look inconsistent between countries usually trace back to how each authority interprets that document, and the cross-check helps us catch transcription errors.
Each country page displays a “Last verified” date, which reflects when its facts were last checked against the official source. Where a source is ambiguous or unreachable, the page says so plainly rather than inventing precision. If you spot something that has changed or looks wrong, please tell us via the contact page — corrections are always welcome and are applied promptly.
Who runs PassportLayout
PassportLayout.online is an independent project, built and maintained by its developer. It isn't owned by a photo lab, a printing chain, or a visa agency, and it has no commercial interest in where — or whether — you print your photos.
The project exists because printing passport photos at home shouldn't require uploading a picture of your face to a stranger's server. Most “free” passport photo sites process your image in the cloud; this one doesn't. All processing happens in your browser using the Canvas API, so your photos never leave your device — see the privacy policy for the full details. The tool and every guide on this site are free to use, with no accounts, watermarks, or paywalls.
